Elegant 18th-19th Century Antique German Iron Mortar, embellished with three thin ribs and a pair of lugs
The lugs would have been either used for positioning or holding the mortar in a wooden stand or by hand
Iron mortars such as this one would have been used for coarse, dry grinding, in contrast to their bronze cousins
It weighs approximately 5 lbs 5 oz and measures approximately 5 inches tall with an outermost diameter of approximately 6 1/4 inches
