This chain was made by RABONE CHESTERMAN marked as such on the center tally tag
2 pole or 'half chains' chains with 50 links are scarce and were preferred by some land surveyors because they were lighter and easier to make precision measurements for town and city lots
Edwin Gunter of England initiated its common use for measuring land boundaries in the early 1600s
