17.1 cm long antique straight bone rongeur, listed among the group of instruments recommended by Dr 2.9 cm across the closed handles (as in photo #9), 8.5 cm when fully open Handles are 17 mm maximum width Jaws are 4 mm wide final 8.5 cm of outside handle surface has a brushed finish, apparently manually applied individually to each instrument made This instrument thus dates pretty clearly to 1900-1910, though the brushed outer surface of some bone instruments was being used by French instrument makers by 1870 All 3 pieces (two halves and the spring) are impressed with numeral 17, to assure correct assembly when there was more than one size of a similar instrument being made in the same factory Adolphe Collin was a 19th century expert surgical instrument manufacturer in Paris
