The most legible part is located in the center "GR 329" with an "18" to the left and a "14" above
They were first made in England during the mid – late 18th century, for measuring ale and other spirits in pubs
They range in size from ½ pint to 2 or 3 gallons (presumably the larger ones served groups of customers)
The use of such labels began in the late 18th century
