Interestingly, the length is the same as any 66’ or 4 pole land surveyor’s chain
English cricket pitches are 22 yards in length and the batting crease where the batsman stands is marked at a distance of 4 feet from each end
This chain was made by Chesterman of Sheffield who was one of the foremost manufacturers of measuring and surveying equipment in their day
