The entire piece was refinished in the mid 19th century and there are traces of an early 19th century ivory paint with varnish and the original red paint throughout
There are some added early (18th and 19th century) nails put into the top
There is a couple of 19th century nails put into one corner to help secure the side tendon (this is a very common occurrence)
