15.0 cm long Farabeuf's retractor, made by Gasselin in Paris during the 3rd or 4th quarter of the 19th century It is 10 mm wide at the narrow end and 14.5 mm wide at the wide end The "nose" of both ends of the retractor is 2 cm long, the wide end having been shortened by a previous owner for unknown reasons The Farabeuf retractor is still made by multiple companies today, and is available in 2 lengths, 12 and 15 cm and makes me wonder if the name for that retractor has anything to do with the common appearance of a pair of Farabeuf's in 19th century French military sets does anyone out there know the real origin of the Army-Navy name for the American type? Gasselin was one of the less famous surgical instrument manufacturers of the 19th century
