Tlingit warriors wore battle helmets depicting crest animals or ancestors, along with wooden visors, thick leather tunics, and body armor made of wooden rods or slats
This appears to be made from a burl and there is an early repair that appears to have been fixed with tree sap or something on the backside with an early square headed nail
I don't know if this is an early sample piece or something that was made for the early 20th century start of tourism to Alaska
