There were two Josephs and two Nicholas working as violin makers during the mid to late 18th century in France
This is a fine quality instrument, handmade by a single maker, and of a very early type that is far superior to the commercial production that followed
This is a master violin with excellent classical measurements, made by a maker whose work is the product not only of expert classical training but original artistry as well
