An ivory terracotta standing figure of the ancient Near Eastern goddess Ishtar, ca. 1st Millennium BC Some discoloration from burial, the head having been re-attached, 3-3/4" (9.5cm) tall, 2-1/4" (5.7cm) across the elbows, and the body is 5/8" (1.6cm) thick Mounted and labeled on a polished hardwood plinth, the overall height is 7-1/4" (18.4cm) The name Ishtar is likely Semitic in origin, and was identified in ancient times with Canaanite goddess Ashtoreth or Astarte (Biblical Hebrew עשתרת)
